Shady Grove Fertility in Virginia Beach

This office is a nightmare to deal with. They are so disorganized and terrible at communicating. For the about of money they charge, we expected to be treated WAY better. Without any type of fertility benefits, we were prepared to spend over $15-25k here to have a baby. Only had one consultation with them and we will be going elsewhere for fertility treatment. I expected to be treated with the best care as this is a very sensitive and costly process, but this was definitely not the experience we had.

I had an incredibly positive experience with Shady Grove Fertility, specifically with Dr. McAlas. After years of trying to conceive, Dr. McAlas was the first provider to recommend an HSG... something my OB had never suggested. That decision ended up being critical. The test identified an issue that ultimately required surgical removal of my left tube, which not only improved my chances of getting pregnant but also helped avoid potential risks to my health down the line. The tube was infected and inflamed, which explained years of pain on that side which had been ignored or dismissed by other providers. From start to finish, I felt like I was finally getting real answers and proactive care. The surgical experience itself was seamless. Every single person I interacted with was kind, reassuring, and professional. The anesthesia was well-managed (not overly heavy and I would know because I've been under for elective and emergency procedures a total of 5 other times), and my recovery has been smooth. I’ve been especially impressed with Dr. McAlas’s bedside manner; she’s thoughtful, thorough, and genuinely invested in her patients. One small tip: the office where I had my HSG was a bit tricky to find, so I’d recommend getting detailed directions ahead of time to avoid any stress the day of if you need one. Overall, I’m incredibly grateful for the care I received and finally feel like I’m on the right path.

Warm and friendly staff. From the time I walked in until the time I left. They made me feel comfortable and important. I was very nervous before I walked into the office.
