The care I’ve received has been amazing and far superior to any other fertility care I’ve gotten elsewhere.

I received care at Briarwood Center for Reproductive Medicine from August 2024 to July 2025. Throughout my treatment, there were multiple breakdowns in communication, monitoring, and follow-up that ultimately led to a serious medical emergency. Despite my history of ruptured ectopic pregnancy and a promise from my care team that I would be monitored closely, my doctor met with me virtually for 15 minutes to deliver what felt like cookie cutter recommendations for fertility treatment. My second IUI cycle was done without any in-office monitoring such as ultrasound, or bloodwork. A couple of days after the procedure, I reached out to my care team several times to report symptoms including spotting, bleeding, and cramping with increasing severity and was advised these were normal and to continue monitoring at home. I recognized I could be experiencing another ectopic so I took a pregnancy test on my own, which was positive. I called the office to report this and asked to be seen that day, and was told to wait to get a blood test to confirm/deny pregnancy. I then went to the ER independently, where an ectopic pregnancy was confirmed and required emergency surgery. In the days following surgery, I experienced worsening symptoms including fever, weakness, and inability to eat or drink. My husband and I contacted the care team multiple times and were advised to continue managing symptoms at home. My condition deteriorated to the point that I required ambulance transport and a second emergency surgery where my general surgeon discovered a bowel perforation that was a result of a trocar injury from my laparoscopic ectopic surgery 4 days prior. I went into septic shock and woke up a few days later in the ICU with no idea where I was or what had happened to me. Recovery required a prolonged hospitalization and ongoing care at home for months. It is now approaching a year post-emergency and I am still dealing with the long-term physical and emotional effects of it all. This experience raises serious concerns about monitoring protocols for high-risk patients and responsiveness to postoperative complications. I am sharing my experience so other patients, especially those with a history of ectopic pregnancy, can make informed decisions. To anyone who proceeds with treatment here: I strongly encourage you to ask detailed questions about how your care will be monitored and when escalation will occur.

I appreciated Dr. Berg’s personality and he was very kind, but I did not feel confident in him as my fertility specialist. He mentioned that it could take up to 12 IVF transfers to fully try, but he did not explain what he would do differently compared to my current clinic. I was hoping for a more individualized plan or new insights based on my specific case. Instead, it felt like the approach would be similar to what I have already experienced, without clear adjustments or a defined strategy moving forward. Overall, I was looking for more direction, clarity, and a tailored plan, and I did not feel that my consultation provided that.

If I could give negative stars I would. Let's just start by saying one of the nurses called me annoying because she had to do her job. I started my ivf journey here not knowing anything, now being on that journey for a while and switching to a different fertility clinic I am sad I ever went here. The amount of stress the doctors and nurses at this place caused me that I thought was normal is crazy, I have a terrible story to go with most of the appointment I had here. You would think with all the money they charge they would do better.

IUI was done too late. Very expensive care without any attention. Bad choice. UofM is good at other things but not this.

I just had a failed transfer while using this clinic. I feel like they don’t listen to your perspective and just do whatever they want all while you pay the price. My egg retrieval was 10,000$ and I had 17 follicles measuring. Only got 2 eggs retrieved. I went in for my transfer and I was concerned about my hormone levels and asked if they could draw some blood. Typically my body doesn’t respond straight away to hormone therapy. I got they don’t typically do that and I was just disregarded. 9 days later my HCG came back as not pregnant and I got a message through the portal saying sorry you’re not pregnant. Your appointment is in January with the doctor. Almost 3 months later. I feel like all they care about is my money.

I’m surprised by so many negative reviews and that prompted me to post. My husband and I had a successful IVF process through this clinic and the docs and nurses are kind, knowledgeable, and professional. I was always treated with dignity and respect. We started fertility treatments at a private clinic in Ann Arbor and switched to UM for IVF because we had better insurance coverage with them. No regrets. They are great.

I wouldn’t recommend this clinic. My first visit with Dr. Menke went fine, and she ordered a bunch of pre-tests. But after I did all the tests, I was told I’d have to wait five months for a follow-up appointment. The HSG test was really uncomfortable, cost $3,000, and is only valid for a year. Some other tests are only good for six months. With infertility treatments being so time-sensitive and my age affecting my chances, waiting months between appointments isn’t practical or affordable. As an infertility clinic, they should prioritize patients' time better. They really need to improve their scheduling so that returning patients can get follow-ups and treatments in a timely manner.

Nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Schon. Her professionalism, expertise, care and compassion have made this incredibly challenging process full of hope and heartbreak more tolerable. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone undergoing this journey. And so much love to the nurses who treated us with extra compassion after our two miscarriages. Thank you for all you do.
